Facet Solutions Completes Facet Joint and Disc Replacement Study
Hopkinton, MA (October 8, 2008) – Facet Solutions, Inc.
today announced the successful completion of a scientific evaluation
for a total joint reconstruction in the lumbar spine by Dr. Vijay
Goel’s laboratory at the University of Toledo. The study
evaluated the combination of Facet Solutions’ ACADIA™ Facet Replacement System (ACADIA™) with a semi-constrained
disc replacement device and then, separately, with a polymeric
disc replacement device in a finite element model. The results
demonstrated restoration of the biomechanics of the native spine.
Dr. Goel commented, “The FEA model demonstrates the ability
of the ACADIA™ technology in combination with different
disc replacement technologies to mimic the biomechanics of the
intact spine.” Marc Peterman, Vice President of R&D
for Facet Solutions added, “This study leverages our landmark
intellectual property in combining facet replacement with an
anterior disc, and it provides further evidence that our anatomic
facet design will work with a variety of anterior motion-sparing
devices.” The details of this study will be presented by
Dr. Goel at 11:45am on Tuesday, October 14th at the NASS pre-meeting
course in Toronto, Ontario.

and facet degeneration a motion preserving alternative to lumbar
